These pages are designed to help you become proficient in some of the invasive procedures you will be performing during your time with us in RPA ICU. The College of Intensive Care Medicine is in the process of reviewing its new curriculum, but we already know that we are heading towards more competency-based, in-house assessments. Trainees will also be expected to keep a ‘core-skills’ logbook.

Proof of competency includes documentation of the learning process as well as the demonstration of adequate knowledge, skills and attitudes. Training frameworks for various skills have been developed to allow for this documentation, and to ensure safety and quality care for patients. An example of a training framework is the CLAB-ICU Training Framework for central line insertion, which we expect all our trainees to use during their time at RPA ICU. If you have already completed a training framework elsewhere, please show this to the Supervisor of Training.
